Instagram stories are hands down the most popular feature of Instagram. They are what made Instagram into what it is today.
It can get a little boring having the same background on all your stories, though. And that’s exactly why Instagram has a feature to easily change the background on Instagram Stories.
Photoshop is not required. It’s all done on the app. Here’s how to change the background on your Instagram Story.
How to Change The Background on an Instagram Story
You have a few different options for changing the background on your Instagram Story. All of them are easy and all offer a unique twist on the background. Here’s how you can easily do all three of them.

- Use your camera to take either a photo or video.
- Select the brush icon in the upper right hand corner of the picture.
- Choose a color from the color wheel.
- Tap the photograph or video.
- The background color will be applied to your Instagram Story within a few seconds.
It’s important to note that this creates a new image on Stories. Any text that you placed over the Story will be deleted, so make sure to write textafteryou change the background color.
Adding a Custom Image Background to Instagram Stories
The above method described how to change the background color, but Instagram is a little more sophisticated than that. It’s actually possible to change the background on your Instagram Story to a custom image.
This is super useful for branding purposes for a business.
Again, it’s extremely simple to do this. Here’s a step-by-step guide how:

- Swipe upwards on the interface.

- Add text over the background.
That’s all there is to it. You can use any image you want as long as it does not violate the Instagram Terms of Service.
Adding a Custom Image and Custom Color Background to Instagram Stories
Finally, it’s possible to add a custom image and a custom color background to Instagram Stories. This is a little more complicated than adding either on their own, but it’s still super simple and easy. Here’s how to do it:

This method is similar to the Instagram Collage. It’s great for businesses that really want to customize their Instagram stories, but it’s not entirely necessary. A custom image background with a text overlay works perfectly fine in our opinion.
